I am a linoleum block printmaker and mixed media artist. Linoleum block printers are artists who create prints by hand, not by digital means. Sometimes referred to as “linocut” or “linoblock” it is a relief printmaking process similar to woodcut prints developed by the Japanese (think of Hokusai, The Great Wave off Kanagawa) but using linoleum instead of wood. Linoleum (yes, like the flooring but minus the asbestos 🙂) has been used for relief printmaking since the early 1900’s. The print is created by a block carved with hand tools, the ink is applied to the raised surface of the block, and the print is pulled by hand or with a press. What is carved away stays white.
Mixed media art is really what it sounds like it is. By utilizing methods and art materials in unconventional ways, surprising and beautiful art is the direct result.
Making art balances my soul. Time stands still while I focus on my craft, allowing me to stay in the moment and yet foster a certain mindfulness that helps me to find rest and peace.
Inspiration comes from places I have visited, especially parks, gardens and large bodies of water. Poetry quotes especially Mary Oliver, Emily Dickenson and Maya Angelo linger in the backdrop of some of my pieces. Women, real and imagined, enter my work full of sass, whimsey, truth and wisdom.

Welcome to Lisa Marie Makes. I am an artist specializing in sketching, relief printmaking, and mixed media collage. This artistic journey allows me to explore new techniques, engage with multifaceted people, and experience both familiar and new locations, with the most rewarding aspect being able to share my narrative with you.
My creative process involves multiple stages and distinct techniques to achieve the final artwork. I appreciate this structured approach. However, despite adhering to these steps, the outcome can still be unpredictable, which I consider an integral part of the artistic exploration.
Each of my relief blocks is meticulously hand-carved. All prints offered for sale are hand-printed by me in limited editions. Due to the artisanal nature of hand-printed linoleum block pieces, minor variations may occur. This characteristic underscores the human craftsmanship involved, distinguishing it from AI-generated art.
Mixed media art also yields unpredictable results. The essence of this practice lies in continuous experimentation, exploration, and the discovery of new creative preferences, which I am eager to share with others.
